FPL is the most popular Fantasy game in the world, run by the league itself. It has over 3 million users.
Every Manager is given £100m from which he has to buy 2 Goalkeepers, 5 Defenders, 5 Midfielders and 3 Strikers. So what should prospective fantasy managers consider when picking their squad, we’re about to see that. Are you ready ?
Let’s start..!!
Squad Selection:
Selecting Goalkeepers:
Their main way of scoring points in FPL come from their teams keeping a Clean Sheet and also making saves. I’d suggest picking your GKs from Mid/Low table teams because they are the ones that make more saves and they also keep lot of clean sheets. Last season, West Brom, Southampton and Sunderland kept 16, 15 and 13 clean sheets over the course of the season respectively.
Budget for GK: £9m - £9.5m
Safe Choices: David de Gea (Manchester United) , Peter Cech (Arsenal)
Worth your Money: Ben Foster (West Brom), Fraser Foster (Southampton)
Their main way of scoring points also come from their team keeping a Clean Sheet. Yes, Defenders can pick points from Goals and Assists too, So, It’s useful to look for Defenders that impose more attacking threat. Yes, I’m talking about Full-Backs.
Budget for Defenders: £24m - £25m
Safe Choices: Hector Bellerin (Arsenal), Toby Alderweireld (Spurs)
Worth your Money: Funes Mori (Everton), Wes Morgan (Leicester City)
Go for more Attacking players rather than Defensive Central Midfielders. Yes, CDMs are cheap and plays a vital role in real life, but they’re not FPL material. Attacking Midfielders can give you points from Goals and Assists. Look for those players as well that are Midfielders by their natural position but play as a striker or false nine like Firmino and Redmond.
Budget for Midfielders: £36m - £40m
Safe Choices: Eden hazard (Chelsea), Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)
Worth your Money: Roberto Firmino(Liverpool), Anthony Martial (Manchester United)
Bargains: Erik Lamela (Spurs), Nathan Redmond (Southampton)
Selecting Strikers:
The Position where most of your points will come from. Consistency is the key for buying Strikers. Look for more consistent Strikers.
Budget for Strikers: £28m - £31m
Safe Choices: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Manchester United)
Worth your Money: Romelu Lukaku (Everton), Diego Costa (Chelsea)
Bargains: Shane long (Southampton), Andre Gray (Burnley)
Guiding Principles:
Fixtures over Form:
Always prefer Fixtures over Form. Yeah, You read it right. Lean towards players who have relatively easy fixtures ahead.
Same Team Same Position:
Avoid those players that play in same team at same position like Silva and Sterling.
Pick Players who Play:
Pick Players who Play:
No matter how well he played in Copa America or in Euro Cup, if they’re not guaranteed first-team game time there is little point in having them in you squad.
Balanced Squad:
Balance your squad. Don’t go for one strong position and other relatively weak. Buy low budget players in every position. It helps in strengthening your squad.
Avoid New Signings:
It is impossible to know how new arrivals will settle into the English game or their new club.
Look at Set-Pieces:
Look at Set-Pieces:
Knowing which players will be taking the Freekicks, Panelties and Corners is very useful as they have the potential to score more goals and assists.
Look at Promoted Clubs:
Look at Promoted Clubs:
Cut-price gems can be found in the ranks of the promoted teams, particularly if the player is new to the Premier League. It’s a risk and defenders are best avoided.
Formation:3-4-3 is the most effective formation in FPL.
Don’t be Loyal:
There is a temptation to pick players from the club you follow, which makes sense as you probably know more about them. But picking your favorites doesn’t always work and If they fail you must be prepared to ditch them.
